Doctors say a previously healthy 24-year-old woman living in Paris was infected after having both P-in-V and oral sex with a dude who got Zika while in Rio de Janeiro. His symptoms (fever , low energy, chills, and a rash) had resolved by the time he arrived in Paris on February 10, and the pair got down from February 11 to February 20. Their tryst included seven rounds of intercourse without ejaculation and oral sex with ejaculation —all without a condom.
As a result, doctors say the virus was probably transmitted either vaginally or orally. it gets worse, “When one cannot rule out the possibility that transmission occurred not through semen but through other biologic fluids, such as pre-ejaculate secretions or saliva exchanged through deep kissing,
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a person in Texas was infected with Zika after having sexual contact with someone who had just returned from Venezuela—a region where the virus is running rampant.
The Zika virus has been reported in 23 countries, mostly in tropical regions, but is spreading quickly and currently does not have a treatment.
This case is particularly significant for a couple of reasons. First, it’s more evidence that Zika can be sexually transmitted (typically, humans contract Zika after being bitten by an infected mosquito , and there is also some evidence that you can get it by coming in contact with infected blood). But this is also big because it marks the first local transmission of the disease in the U.S. Up until this point, the only U.S. residents to become infected had done so while traveling abroad.
Don’t travel to places where the Zika virus is spreading, avoid areas where mosquitos are prevalent, wear long pants and sleeves while outside if you do happen to be somewhere with a lot of mosquitos, and use a condom during all sexual contact.
